Celebrating 125 Years of Service to the Lord
One hundred twenty five years! Only eternity will reveal the lives that have been touched and changed as a result of Athens Baptist Church. She has experienced the joy of new birth in both babies and salvation. She has seen men and women united in marriage. She has said farewell to many as they have gone home to be with the Lord. She has extended a helping hand to the needy, encouragement to the troubled and supported missionaries in other parts of the world. She has truly been blessed by God.
As important as it is to remember from whence we came, it is more important for us to look ahead. Athens Baptist Church has remained here for these one hundred twenty five years to minister to the people in and around Athens WV. There is much work still to be done. So in 2012 let’s take time to pause and reflect, but let’s also be careful not to get stuck in the past, let’s say with the apostle Paul “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:14 ESV )
I am grateful to the Lord for all those who have served the Lord as pastor here at Athens Baptist Church. I am honored to be included among such a group of God’s men. I am also grateful for each person who makes up Athens Baptist Church today. You are a special people in a special place at a special time for a special purpose. God bless us all!
